Charj Privacy Policy

Charj is a free, ad-free mobile app that helps Tunisian EV owners find charging stations. This policy explains what data we collect and how we use it.
Summary
- We collect the minimum data necessary to make the app work.
- We do not sell your data. Ever.
- We do not use advertising networks or advertising trackers.
- We do not require an account to use Charj.
What we collect
Location data
When you grant permission, Charj uses your device's location to: - Center the map on your position - Calculate distances to nearby chargers - Sort charger lists by distance
Map centering and distance calculations happen on your device. When you calculate a driving route, the origin and destination are sent to our route service hosted by Supabase and to Google Maps. When you start navigation, the selected destinations are passed to the maps app you open.
Community submissions
If you submit a charger or report a problem, we store the following on our servers: - A randomly generated, anonymous device identifier (used only to show you your own submissions count) - The charger name, location, connector type, power, notes, and photos you provide - The timestamp of your submission
You can clear your device identifier at any time by reinstalling the app.
Reviews and charging confirmations
When you send a review or charging confirmation, we store an anonymous session identifier to protect your contributions and limit duplicates. This identifier is not published with your contribution. Older reviews remain visible but cannot be assigned to a new session using their public identifier.
Public confirmations contain the station, outcome, chosen visit date, optional reason and connector, and submission date. They do not contain your GPS position. Public reviews contain your rating and comment. Contributions can be hidden for moderation.
Drafts and reminders after navigation stay on your device. Reports are never sent automatically. Reminders expire after 24 hours and drafts after 48 hours; they are also cleared after submission, skipping, or an identity change. Uninstalling the app does not delete contributions already sent to the server.
Followed stations and saved plans
Following a station stores your anonymous session identifier, the station and follow date, and which updates you marked as read. These choices are private. The inbox shows changes after you follow a station for up to 30 days. Unfollowing removes the follow and its read receipts. An optional cache stays on your device and is cleared when the session changes.
Saved plans stay on your device, including their starting point, destination, battery setting, selected vehicle reference and preferred stops. You can delete them in Saved plans.
Shared itinerary links
Sharing is optional and requires reviewing the destination and charging stops first. We store that public snapshot, a random link token, an anonymous owner identifier and creation and expiry dates. Anyone with the link can read its title, destination coordinates and name, and charging stops. Your starting point, battery setting and vehicle are not included.
Links expire after 30 days and can be revoked in Saved plans. Deleting a local plan does not revoke its links. Revocation prevents new retrievals; it cannot remove copies or routes already saved by recipients. Losing your anonymous session can prevent you from managing existing links. Expired or revoked records may remain for ownership and retry handling but are no longer publicly readable. The public page uses no advertising trackers; GitHub Pages hosts the page and Supabase serves the shared itinerary.
Technical data
Charj may cache charger data locally on your device for offline use. This cache is stored only on your device. Builds with Sentry enabled send error, performance, and session-stability diagnostics to help fix problems.
Usage analytics
Usage analytics is enabled by default. You can turn it off in Settings → Usage analytics. It measures app opens, charger views, search result counts and selected filters, itinerary requests and their outcomes, and launches of a navigation app. Events include a pseudonymous user-session identifier, a visit identifier, timestamp, app version, platform and language.
Events are hosted by Supabase and retained for 90 days, with daily deletion of older records. The admin dashboard displays aggregate statistics. These events exclude GPS positions, route coordinates, search text, names and email addresses. Opting out stops new collection and clears pending events on your device; previously delivered events follow the retention period. This setting does not disable Sentry reliability diagnostics. Reinstalling the app can create a new identifier and restore default settings.
What we do NOT collect
- Names, email addresses, or phone numbers required to use the app. You may voluntarily provide an email address with a feedback message.
- Account credentials or passwords
- Browsing history outside Charj or advertising identifiers
- Device contacts, photos (except those you voluntarily submit), or other personal files
Third-party services
Charj relies on: - Google Maps for map tiles and navigation. Google's privacy policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy - Supabase for database hosting. Supabase's privacy policy: https://supabase.com/privacy - Sentry, when enabled, for reliability diagnostics. Privacy policy: https://sentry.io/privacy/ - Open Charge Map for base charger data. No user data is sent to Open Charge Map.
Your rights
You may at any time: - Turn off usage analytics in Charj settings - Revoke location permissions via your device settings - Delete all local app data by uninstalling Charj - Request deletion of a submission you made by opening a GitHub issue: https://github.com/alabenkhlifa/CharJ/issues
Children
Charj is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and include a summary of changes.
